Biligudda hill

Climbing in the sun

November 20, 2016

In Bengaluru I am staying with my friend Shashi. Today we did a trip with him and his flatmates Sachin, Nikhil, Pranav and Anay. We went to the Biligudda hill located only 20 km outside Bengaluru. We set off at 5 early in the morning on busy but not full roads. With all the speed bumps and due to Bengalurus size it took over 2 hours to leave the city. Then the scenery quickly changed.

The buildings stopped and a beautiful view opened up. Suddenly dry greenery with wild rocks in the background. After driving along a stony dirt road we reached the village of Savandurga. I find it strange eating spicy for breakfast. Still, the puliyogare rice we had there was delicious. We got some more snacks paired with chai, of course. Shashi payed the tax to my favourite animals, monkeys.

Then we set off to climb up the hill. I didn't realise "climbing" actually meant climbing. At some parts it was so steep that we couldn't walk on 2 feet anymore.

With lots of effort we made our way up, while barefoot walking locals casually passed us to sell water or juice. We enjoyed great vistas and decided that that was enough before making it to the top. The sun was burning as we descended. After a break in the village we rode back to Bengaluru.
