Some time in Bangalore

Getting settled for the trip

December 03, 2016

This week I stayed in Bangalore to relax before the big trip. I learned to be very careful of where I was walking. There are endless opportunities of falling into holes in the pavement. I went to a tech fair on the palace grounds. I treated myself to some nice snacks like fresh pineapple, fruit juices or some tree trunk.

It is still a problem to get cash. Queues are already shorter than directly after the abolishment of larger bank notes. Even though it is temporarily uncomfortable people are supportive of that decision. It is one huge step against black money. Let's hope there is more to come.

Another new law introduced by the prime minister Narendra Modi is that before playing a movie in the cinema, the national anthem must be played and people must stand for that. Of course I had to see that. I also got to watch a great Hindi movie, Kahaani 2, that way. Shashi didn't even have to explain that much to me. Only seeing the emotions of the actors tells a lot.

In the evenings I had a good time with Shashi and his flatmates Pranav, Anay and Sachin. I was taught the art of making roti. Hopefully I will be able to make it at home. Last time I tried in Germany I didn't manage. I used this week to plan my further trip and to book some train tickets. The next stop will be Hampi.
