Coasts and Caves

Moving towards the North

December 13, 2016

I've been to a few places in the past couple of days. I had a short stop over in Hubli where I visited Nikhil and his warehouse business. From there I went to Goa. Although it was the main season for Goa it was not too full due to the cash problem. I still enjoyed the bars and the great seafood.

From Goa I flew to Mumbai to visit my friend Shiv. He took me to a few bars so we did some sight seeing at night. We went to the Taj and to Trident, the most exclusive hotels of India, to have a drink. We were surprised by the fairly reasonable prices. During the day I did some more sight seeing. I got asked for photos in front of Shah Rukh Khan's house. He is one of the most popular actors worldwide.

On the third evening in Mumbai I travelled to Aurangabad to see the Ajanta caves. There I met Elena and Tiemen. We happened to be there for the Muslim festival Maulid an-Nabi, the birthday of Mohammed. Free food was served on the streets. We hired an auto for a day and the driver took us to various places. This included the place, where all Muslims within a 200 km range went that day. In Khuldabad is a shrine, that contains one hair and the uniform of Prophet Muhammad. We then went to the fascinating Ellora caves. Here Buddhist and Hindu temples are created in the rock. We did not have the time to visit all of the 34 caves. We selected the most spectacular ones including the Kailasanath temple. This is the largest monolithic temple of India, carved out of one single rock.

I do get asked for photos every now and then. Next to blonde people I am invisible though. Look at this. Yes, it really is them.

Two blonde people.

The next day we decided that we didn't need to see the Ajanta caves. As astonishing as the Ellora caves were, Ajanta would be too similar to be worth the effort of getting there. Instead we just had a relaxed half day.
