Welcoming 2017 with thing two

And doing some serious relaxing

January 6, 2017

The day after Annemarie left, Nils and I first went to a nice park. We just watched people pass by and the security guy stopping some youths playing volleyball for no reason. We then walked around the pink city and the market areas. We decided that we have had enough of dense city with polluted air and the constant traffic noise from honking.

So we sat ourselves in a bus to Pushkar. This is a religious place with a holy lake and thousands of temples. You don't really feel this religiousness though as it is also really touristy. Most people would probably consider that as a negative point, but for us it was just right. After getting up late we spent most of our time in restaurants eating fantastic wood fire pizza.

Walking around the touristy market, we found someone offering camel tours. So we took Johnson for a short ride through the deserty area around.

For new Year's Eve we went to a psytrance party put up somewhere in the desert. Though this music together with the colourful lights is best enjoyed with drugs, we stuck to alcohol and had a great time still. We ended up talking to many Indians and celebrating 2017 with them. Despite the (and Indians agreed to this) distasteful food, it finished being a fun party and a tasteful way to start the new year.

Remembering the camel tour and the party, we thought it might be a good idea to rent a scooter and explore the area around. And it was. We had great fun just driving around, discovering pretty viewpoints or roaming through deserty villages. We ended up finding an old fort, that some kids led us to. In the evening we had to drive through the crowded market hooting everybody away. This alone is already quite an experience.

I skipped through the boring part of just sitting in restaurants, though this is how we spent most our time. I was very happy to take a rest from constant travelling and simply doing nothing.

After having enough of that, we went back to Jaipur. Again, our first destination after waking up was the park. From there we went to the Jantar Mantar to complete at least one sight in Jaipur. These astronomical instruments were impressive. My favourite was the sundial which lets you read the time with a two second accuracy.

The next day, Nils unfortunately had to leave back to Germany. I enjoyed the pause from travelling and from Indian food. Only now I am left with a problem. Already having had enough of Indian food, I am now not so keen on fast food either. I will slowly have to get used to Indian dishes again.
